The symbol of love : the Taj Mahal.

Ciao carissimi amici, oggi vi presenterò un monumento celeberrimo, inconfondibile simbolo dell'amore e meta di pellegrinaggio e visite da tutto il mondo : il Taj Mahal.

In realtà è un monumento funebre fatto costruire dall'imperatore Moghul Shah Jahan in memoria della moglie Mumtaz Mahal che morì dando alla luce il 14° figlio dell'imperatore (povera Mumtaz!!!).

I lavori iniziarono nel 1632 e terminarono 22 anni dopo. Vennero portati qui ad Agra, per costruirlo, marmo bianco dal Rajasthan, pietre preziose dal Punjab, dalla Cina, dal Tibet e dall'Arabia.

La straordinarietà dell'opera consiste nella perfetta geometria delle forme e nella ricerca continua della simmetria, portata avanti in maniera quasi ossessiva. Quando ho avuto la prima visione del Taj, entrando dal portone principale, mi è sembrato un miraggio, qualcosa di ultraterreno ed ho sentito i brividi. Indescrivibili le sensazioni che si provano ammirandolo nella sua soavità e leggerezza. Posso solo dire che è facile comprendere il motivo per cui è diventato così famoso. E' fantastico osservarlo nei vari momenti del giorno, quando cambia colore a seconda della luce. Può essere, grazie al sottile gioco di luci ed ombre sul marmo,  bianco glaciale, rosa tenue, giallo dorato.

Mi ha fatto sorridere la leggenda (non confermata e speriamo non sia vera!) secondo la quale si dice che l'imperatore, per evitare che venisse costruita un'opera simile per bellezza, avesse fatto mozzare le mani degli artisti e decapitare il progettista. 

Interessante poi la teoria, confermata dai resti di un giardino, che afferma che dovesse essere costruito un gemello del taj Mahal in marmo nero, mausoleo dell'imperatore, sull'altra sponda del fiume Yamuna e che dovesse essere collegato a quello esistente con un ponte di marmo o di oro. Romanticissimo! Probabilmente non fu eretto per mancanza di fondi.

Una piccola raccomandazione. Cercate di andarci all'alba, per essere i primi ad entrare e godervi la luce rosata che si riflette sul marmo. Un'emozione indimenticabile.

Ciao my dear friends, today i'll introduce you a very celebrated monument, an unmistakable symbol of love and a destination of pilgrimage and visits from all over the world : the Taj Mahal.

In reality, it is a funeral monument that the emperor Moghul Shah Jahan wanted to raise in honour of the wife Mumtaz Mahal that died, giving birth to the 14° emperor's child (poor Mumtaz!!!!).

The work began in 1632 and ended 22 years after. A lot of materials were brought here to Agra to raise it : the marble from the Rajasthan, the precious stones from Punjab, China, Tibet and Arabia.

The extraordinariness of this work of art consists in the perfect geometry of the forms and in the continuous pursuit of the symmetry, wanted in a quite obsessive way. When I saw the Taj Mahal for the first time, entering from the main door, seemed to me a mirage, something like unworldly and I had the shivers. The sensations that I felt, admiring it in its sweetness and lightness, were beyond description. I only can say that it's easy to understand the reason that why it is so famous. It's fantastic to observe it in the different moments of the day, when it changes color depending on the light. It could be, thanks to the subtle play of lights and shades on the marble, glacial white, soft pink or golden yellow.

I smiled hearing the legend ( I hope that it's not true!!!) that tells that the emperor, to avoid that it could be raised another work of art so beautiful, ordered to cut off the artists's hands and to decapitate the architect. Then, it's very interesting the theory, confirmed by the ruins of a garden on the other bank of the river Yamuna, that affirms that the emperor wanted to raise another Taj Mahal in black marble for his mausoleum, connected to the existing Taj Mahal by a marble or golden bridge. Very romantic! Probably, it wasn't built 'cause a lack of funds.

A little suggestion. Try to visit it at sunrise to be the first to enter and to enjoy the pink light that is reflected on the marble. An unforgettable emotion!
